Alec is an accomplished, singer, songwriter, pianist, guitarist, drummer, harmonica player, recording artist and performer
who was literally born into a talented musical family. His mother Anne Phillips actually went into labor with Alec at the end of a recording session singing all the backup parts for Carol Kings first solo carrier hit “It might as well rain until September”.
He was mostly raised in the New York metropolitan area. His father was jazz bassist, Bill Phillips, whose playing credits ranged from the Newport Jazz Festival to Birdland and was later partner of the renowned Stea- Phillips Recording Studio recording groups such as The Four Seasons, Mitch Rider and the Detroit Wheels and many more. He later went on to start a new era in the jingle biz integrating pop music with television commercials. His mother is singer/songwriter Anne Phillips (AnnePhillips.com), Roulette recording artist and composer/arranger of those national commercials featuring such great R&B, rock and pop artists as The Four Tops, Wilson Pickett and Martha and the Vandellas.
Alec grew up surrounded with great music and great musicians. His recording experience began playing in the world-class studio in his family's home and singing on many national commercials.
Beginning his professional career as a drummer and vocalist in rock bands of many different styles, he then attended Berklee College of Music adding music theory and the knowledge of harmony to his songwriting skills. He has worked full time as a musician ever since.
Alec has graced many stages. He has opened for national acts such as Jorma Kaukonen from Hot Tuna, Jefferson Airplane, Rick Danko (The Band), Robbie Krieger (The Doors), Toy Caldwell (Marshall Tucker),Commander Cody and Jefferson Starship. He made his way onto the international scene playing keyboards on European promotional tours for Paul Young and British pop band Bros. He formed his own band which became one of the top club bands in Guangzhuo, China.
His CDs "OVER EASY" and "IT'S A JUNGLE OUT THERE," capture the many different styles and moods influenced by his rich experiences.
Inspired by his patent pending self designed keyboard pedal system, bringing forth a whole new sound and feel in keyboard playing, he is now recording and soon to be released a whole new arsenal of songs recorded in his studio along with his own video productions. Many can already be viewed on his Youtube and Vimeo channels.
Alec is as diverse as his music but with the common thread of his own distinct sound. Keep tuned for lot’s more to come~~

Alec & The Pocket is one of the largest sounding two man shows out there. It features Alec mainly on keys, lead vocals and harmonica along with his dynamic drummer/percussionist/vocalist.
This unique show also features Alec’s patent pending, self designed, keyboard pedal system which some have described as electric slide guitar meets synth keyboard. It’s the only one of its kind that gives this duo an unequivocally unique sound. There is also much diversity going on in these shows. They can be hard hitting funky jammers yet mature singer songwriting compositions infused with beautiful harmony.
The moods range from hard driving rock-n-roll to sweeping Latin grooves to danceable reggae. From there they will take you on to some funky jazz flavors to some heavy blues. Alec’s soulful rugged singing fits right into it all. Then don’t be surprised by his melodic acoustic songs featuring his folky singer/songwriter side.
You will notice that these guys are a product of their musical influences. When they go into jams, they don’t just meander aimlessly. They take you on one jamming, musical ride. Alec & The Pocket is both an original show and a cover show. The wide spectrum of cover songs span from classic rock, blues, funk, Motown, folk to jam band psychedelic.
